Tai Chi by Houston Area Parkinson Society
HAPS continues to meet virtually, please contact them directly for information on times of classes and how to access on ZOOM!
As a part of our community outreach ministry, we provide facility use for Tai Chi by the Houston Area Parkinson Society.
Tai chi is an ancient Chinese martial art practiced for both its defense training and health benefits. It is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching connecting mind and body. Tai chi involves performing a series of postures or movements in a slow, graceful manner.
Each posture flows into the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion. “Tai chi training appears to reduce balance impairments in patients with mild to moderate Parkinson’s disease, with additional benefits of improved functional capacity and reduced falls.” – New England Journal of Medicine, February 2012.
